Hungarian food maybe best be known for its use of paprika, famed goulash soup and its namesake salami, but there’s a lot more to the cuisine. The country’s food is a mixture of traditional foods by its ethnic Magyar population, Austrian dishes shared during the Austrian-Hungarian empire, Middle Eastern tastes hailing from Ottoman rule, and other influences by its European neighbours. Popular dishes include paprikás csirke (chicken paprika), töltött káposzta (stuffed cabbage rolls), gulyás (goulash), schnitzel, nokedli (dumplings) and sweets like the famed dobos torta and linzer torta, as well as yeast cakes like beijgl and kuglof.
