Austrian food is native to Austria and takes bites of influences from regions of the former Austro-Hungarian Empire including the Balkans, Hungary, Germany and Italy. Austrian cuisine is often connected to Viennese food, but variations differ depending on the region. Austrians love their meat- think Wiener Schnitzel, pork dishes and different types of sausages such as Frankfurters. Cakes and desserts are also Austrian specialties, particularly the renowned Sachentorte (a chocolate cake with apricot jam filling, usually eaten with whipped cream) and apple strudel.
